Junior / Intermediate Structural Engineer

DESCRIPTION OF POSITION

Bradley Engineering is looking for an individual to work as a junior or intermediate structural engineer in the low-rise commercial, industrial, agricultural, multi-residential and residential building sectors. The position will involve the structural design and analysis of a variety of structural assemblies consisting of a variety of structural materials. All projects involve the use of material design codes and jurisdictional construction codes. Work will involve travel to project locations to conduct inspections of existing and new construction, the preparation of inspection reports, and evaluations related to these inspections. Our office offers full structural engineering services and thus you will be required to prepare structural sketches and full size drawings and details by hand and using REVIT Structure. You must conduct yourself in a professional manner at all times in all forms of communication. You will work in the Norwood office.

This position is suited for someone who is looking for mentoring, and to work in a dynamic environment with exposure to a variety of engineering challenges over a diverse range of building sectors. You will work directly with the principal of the Company, Sara Bradley, P.Eng. You are a keen learner and pick things up quickly.

Depending on the number and level of your qualifications, the position may be part time, contract, or full time. The position will start as a probationary position. The hourly rate or salary will be determined based on qualifications.

It is expected that the successful candidate will live within approximately 45 minutes from the office. This position will be filled by someone whose skills, attitude, personality and future goals are best aligned with the company.

THE CANDIDATE MUST HAVE THE FOLLOWING QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION
– Have an undergraduate engineering degree which focussed on the discipline of structural engineering.
WORK EXPERIENCE
– Minimum 3 years experience in a structural engineering office.
COMPUTER SKILLS
– Must have good general computer skills and understanding.
– Must be well versed in Microsoft Word and Excel, have good typing skills.
– Must have some Autodesk REVIT Structure background.
– Familiarity with the following software programs and applications is an asset: Microsoft Access, Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Live Photo Gallery, Dropbox, Google Drive, Evernote.
– Familiarity with the following structural design and presentation software is and asset: RISA, Woodworks, REVIT structure, AutoCAD.
ENGINEERING SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
– Have working knowledge with the Canadian design codes in wood, steel, masonry, and concrete as well as the Ontario Building Code. Additional design code familiarity is an asset.
– Hold an EIT status and be eligible for P. Eng. status.
PERSONAL SKILLS
– Communicate clearly and effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
– Have access to a vehicle and a valid driver’s licence.
– Be physically able to walk around an active construction site and climb ladders. All required health and safety certifications, courses and equipment will be supplied by the company.
