Bradley Engineering attends Timber Assessment workshop in Massachusetts

NEWS2015-04Sara joined a group of 20 other engineers, timber framers, sawyers, and educators in western Massachusetts to further her understanding of the use of reclaimed timbers in new construction and assessing and assigning capacities to timber in-situ.
A fantastic group of interested people from the eastern US and Canada took part in this three day workshop titled “Timber Grading Course”.  The course was sponsored jointly by the Timber Framers Guild and the Timber Frame Engineering Council.  Also a main presenter was NELMA, the North Eastern Lumber Manufacturing Association, who facilitated a number of classroom sessions as well as a the grading portion of the workshop.  We gathered at the Heartwood Schoolhouse, nestled in the woods in the Berkshire Hills of western Massachusetts.  The program was well run, with excellent topics and speakers, great contributions from participants, and valuable hands on supervised sessions.  The food and learning environment were both superb.  I would highly recommend this course to anyone who works with timber and is looking for a better understanding of the technical background behind timber and its usage.
